Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray resigns ahead of floor test
In the latest developments in the crisis in the Maharashtra government, Uddhav Thackeray has resigned ahead of the floor test tomorrow.
The announcement was made via Facebook Live shortly after the Supreme Court ordered the Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to take a floor test to prove its majority in the Assembly tomorrow.
Addressing the state, Uddhav said he is satisfied that his government has renamed Aurangabbad as Sambhaji Nagar.
He also thanked member of the MVA alliance for their support.
The court order came after a hearing on a plea by Shiv Sena chief challenging the Maharashtra Governor’s direction to CM Uddhav to face a trust vote.
During the hearing, the top court observed that the floor of the House was the only way to settle these issues of democracy.
